China's first lady Peng Liyuan suffers embarrassing make-up fail at lavish Lord Mayor's banquet

Madame Peng Liyuan arrives at the Lord Mayors banquet at The Guildhall on October 21, 2015 in London, EnglandFail: What is that mysterious white smear look?
China's first lady seems to have suffered a regrettable make-up mishap at a swanky dinner last night.
Peng Liyuan - dubbed the Chinese Kate Middleton - was attending the Lord Mayor's banquet as part of her husband Xi Jinping's historic state visit to the UK.

But when Madame Peng, who was a famous folk singer before she married President Xi , arrived at the lavish do at London's Guildhall, something seemed odd with her foundation.
The fashion-conscious first lady had unsightly white powder all over her forehead and nose.  China's president Xi Jinping and his wife Peng Liyuan arrive at a banquet at the Guildhall in London on the second day of Xi's state visit
Silica powder could be behind the gaffe.
The powder can help absorb oil and control shine - but if too much is applied it can really stand out in photographs.

Unfortunately, it's impossible to tell if you've put too much on until the cameras are flashing.
Meanwhile her husband had fashion problems of his own, with his trousers appearing a touch too long.

Madame Peng is possibly the world's only superstar folk singer who also holds the rank of army general.
She has global fame to rival Kate Middleton and is well known in her native China for her folk singing career.
In fact, when her husband and The Queen exchanged gifts as part of their state visit this week, Her Majesty received two of Madame Peng's albums.
